From the moment “Mary of Nazareth” explodes on the
screen, you know that the movie you are about to see is going to be as special
as the woman it portrays – and it does not disappoint. Imagine seeing Salvation
History through the eyes of the Mother of God! EWTN airs “Mary of Nazareth” in
two parts during the Christmas season:
Part 1 airs 8 p.m. ET, Saturday, Dec. 29; Part 2 airs 8 p.m. ET,
Saturday, Jan. 5. This coincides with the Feast of the Holy Family on December
30 and the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on January 1.
Directed by Giacomo Campiotti (“Bakhita,” “Doctor
Zhivago,” “St. Giuseppe Moscati”), written by Francesco Arlanch (“Restless
Heart,” “Pius XII,” “Pope John Paul II”), and filmed on location in Europe with
beautifully realistic settings, this film is sure to impress, intrigue, and
inspire you!
You will be surprised by the tension, the drama, the
realistic dialogue and the beautifully acting! You’ll watch Joseph court Mary,
her joy after the Angel Gabriel’s visit, and her father’s outrage, her mother’s
terror when they discover she is pregnant, as well as Joseph’s disappointment,
and later wonder, as he comes to believe that Mary is carrying the Son of God.
You’ll also witness the birth of Jesus, the murder of the nation’s first born
sons, the flight to Egypt, the death of Herod, and the plotting of the evil
Herodius – and that’s just Part 1! In addition to Mary, you will get to know
Joseph, King Herod, Mary Magdalen, and many others.
According to the producers: “This film vividly
captures the essence of Mary’s profound faith and trust in God amidst the great
mysteries that she lived with as the Mother of the Messiah, her compassionate
humanity and concern for others, and the deep love that she and Jesus shared
for one another. This movie underscores her special role in God’s plan for our
redemption, her unique relationship with Christ, and the tremendous suffering
that she endured in union with his passion and death, as well as her serene joy
at his Resurrection.”
The Collector’s Edition of this film, which is
available from EWTN Religious Catalogue, includes an interview with Alissa
Jung, the actress who portrays Mary; a backstage film segment; a photo slide
